01 / The experience

Leave a message.
Hang up for a portrait.

A familiar object. An unexpected exchange. Guests checked in at a retro computer, stepped into a booth lined with handwritten prompts, and picked up the phone.

A computerized voice invited them to leave a message. Hanging up triggered a portrait. Recorded voices became transcripts; a custom review interface brought words and faces together for the client to select for a zine.

02 / Making it work

A real payphone.
A real deadline.

Two weeks from design to live operation. A working payphone, sourced and connected to the app through a real PBX exchange. A CRT found on-site. Assembly and installation alongside the event’s carpenter teams.

leftblankco handled the activation from design and procurement through implementation, installation, operation, and maintenance.
